Mansanarez is a full-time artist. He at one time was cement mason in California and painted only part-time. He moved to Idaho when he began to paint seriously and to hunt and fish.He has had gallery representation in Jackson, Wyoming, but has sold much work privately to collectors.

His son Tom Mansanarez is a professional wildlife artist. Manuel's paintings differ from his son's in that he features landscape as well as large mammals. Tom tends to paint close ups of the animals to capture the essence of their personalities.
